What does aligner treatment cost – and why? Transparent costs, honestly explained

One of the most common questions before an aligner treatment is: „What does this actually cost – and why do the prices differ so much?" A perfectly fair question. Dental costs often seem opaque. So here we explain openly how the price of an aligner treatment is made up.

Dental services are billed according to the GOZ

In Germany, the Gebührenordnung für Zahnärzte (GOZ – the official scale of fees for dentists) applies to dental services. It is binding – there are no freely invented flat rates or fixed prices. The price depends on the actual effort your individual case requires: findings, severity of the misalignment, planning, number of check-up appointments. That is precisely why no reputable practice can quote you an off-the-shelf final price in advance. What you do get is a written treatment and cost plan before treatment begins – it states your individual price, transparently and bindingly.

The price consists of two parts

  1. The dental service – the diagnostics, the three-dimensional treatment planning, the fitting and the regular check-ups at the practice. This is billed according to the GOZ.
  2. The dental technology share (laboratory share) – these are the aligners themselves, manufactured by the producer. This share depends on the system used, the number of aligners and the scope of treatment.

That both parts are considered separately is not a detail, but the very core of honest costing.

Why we pass on the laboratory share fairly

A clear legal rule applies to the laboratory share (§ 9 GOZ): a dental practice may charge only the laboratory costs actually incurred – no more. Such laboratory terms are usually volume-dependent: the more aligner treatments a practice carries out, the lower the manufacturer calculates the laboratory share. Because of our treatment volume we receive correspondingly favourable terms – and we pass this advantage on to you in full. We add nothing on top of the laboratory share.

This also means: laboratory terms can change. So that you can rely on a figure, your personal cost estimate is binding until the end of the calendar month.

What do „from" prices mean?

When you see „from" prices with us, these are guide values for suitable cases – not a fixed price. Your actual price only emerges after the examination and is stated in your treatment and cost plan. No hidden costs, no surprises afterwards.
